Lichen Wall Spiral (2015)
Lichen, Dry Stone Wall. Tazie, France.
An ephemeral work made by lightly scratching a spiral into the lichen growing on a dry stone wall. This piece is made on a wall that was created by humans rearranging natural materials, a minimal intervention in the land. The piece is created by gently scratching lichen, a minimal and gentle intervention by the hand of the artist. I chose the spiral form, as it is a natural pattern that occurs repeatedly within nature, in forms as small as shells and ammonites to forms as large as extratropical cyclones and spiral galaxies.
