## Yellow Flower Leaf Line (2016)

*Yellow Flower Leaf Line* (2016)

Bethany Hyde.

Kerria Flowers, Tree. Victoria Park, Bath.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by laying a line of kerria flowers along the centre of a leaf. Responding the immediate environment, this piece was made using flowers from the tree next to these leaves and the flowers were arranged along a line natural occurring within nature, responding to the form that was already there. A gentle intervention that does not interfere with the eco-system, this piece gave me the chance to learn something more about nature, considering the form and growth of that particular leaf and of those particular flowers.

## Nature Impaled/Three Standing Leaves: The Sentinels (2016)

*Nature Impaled/**Three Standing Leaves: The Sentinels* (2016)

Bethany Hyde.

Three Leaves, Metal Fence. Victoria Park, Bath.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by impaling three leaves with the spikes of a fence. There is something quite violent about this piece, with the spikes of then fence stabbing through the delicate leaves, which echoes strongly with the human treatment of nature. The first title was given to the work for this reason. The second title reflects the way that impaling the leaves has personified them. They appear as three watchers, the watchers on the walls protecting the nature within.

## Bluebell Bark Composition (2016)

*Bluebell Bark Composition* (2016)

Bethany Hyde.

Bluebells, Tree. Bath.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by balancing bluebell flowers along the peeling bark of a tree. Made as a response to the site, using the natural materials in the area and following the natural lines created as the outer bark cracks and comes away from the tree.

## Blossom River Line (2016)

*Blossom River Line* (2016)

Bethany Hyde.

Blossom Petals, Pavement Edge. Bath.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by parting the petals to create a wavy line through the blossom that had fallen from the tree above. I created a natural waving line, similar to the curving path taken by rivers, to juxtapose the rigid straight line of the manmade pavement. I liked the idea that the straight line of the pavement represents the need in contemporary Western culture to take the shortest route and get everything done as quickly as possible, as well as our rigidity and reluctance to change and adapt to situations, while the waving line represents the slower, flowing route taken by nature and its ability to change and adapt to thrive in any situation.

## Yellow Flower Tree Line (2016)

*Yellow Flower Tree Line* (2016)

Bethany Hyde.

Forsythia Flowers, Tree. Victoria Park, Bath.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by gently pressing forsythia flowers into the one of the crevasses in the bark of a tree. This work highlights the natural lines that occur within nature and emphasizes the bursting yellow colour of the flowers by contrasting them against the dull bark of the tree. It hopefully caught the attention of a few passers by and made them stop and think and look more closely at nature, before the flowers fell back to the ground and continued their natural life-cycle.

## Spring Snowflake (2016)

*Spring Snowflake* (2016)

Bethany Hyde.

Berry, Evergreen Leaves, Stone. Bath.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by arranging leaves from and evergreen tree around a berry, on stone. Made as the mornings became less frosty and the first signs of spring had begun to appear. The piece naturally evolved to take the form of a snowflake and so became my snowflake for spring.

*Lichen Wall Spiral* (2015)

Bethany Hyde.

Lichen, Dry Stone Wall. Tazie, France.

**About
**An ephemeral work made by lightly scratching a spiral into the lichen growing on a dry stone wall. This piece is made on a wall that was created by humans rearranging natural materials, a minimal intervention in the land. The piece is created by gently scratching lichen, a minimal and gentle intervention by the hand of the artist. I chose the spiral form, as it is a natural pattern that occurs repeatedly within nature, in forms as small as shells and ammonites to forms as large as extratropical cyclones and spiral galaxies.
